You can build a basic aromatherapy nasal inhaler at home with three cheap parts: a blank inhaler tube, a cotton wick, and essential oil. The whole process takes under ten minutes.
What you need
- A blank aromatherapy inhaler tube kit (tube + cap + cotton wick)
- Essential oil(s) of your choice
- Tweezers, for handling the wick
- A small glass dish, if blending more than one oil
Steps
- Pick your oil or blend. A single oil works fine, or combine two or three in a small glass dish first.
- Saturate the wick. Drop the oil directly onto the cotton wick — most kits are designed for roughly 10–20 total drops, but check your specific kit's instructions.
- Let it sit for a minute so the oil absorbs evenly.
- Insert the wick with tweezers, then snap the base cap shut.
- Label it if you're making more than one blend.
Before you start
- Patch-test a new oil on skin before regular use.
- Keep oils away from eyes; don't apply undiluted oil directly to skin.
- Keep oils and the finished inhaler away from children and pets.
- Don't ingest essential oils — inhalers are for external, airborne use only.
- Discontinue use if you notice any irritation.
None of this makes the DIY inhaler a medical device — it's a craft project, and the result is a personal scent tool, not a treatment for anything.
If you'd rather skip the assembly
A DIY inhaler is a fun, cheap way to experiment with blending — the tradeoff is inconsistency (wick saturation and ratios vary batch to batch) and no sealed shelf life. If you want a pre-blended, sealed, ready-to-use version, Unplog's four sticks — Focus, Calm, Energy ("Liquid Sunshine"), and Bliss — are pre-mixed and built to last up to 60 days each. The Discovery Pack is the easiest way to compare.
